Family Fun: St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations in Dundee

What is better than a St. Patrick’s Day celebration? Answer: Two St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Start with the Thom McNamee Memorial St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 9th, in East Dundee. This is a celebration with a little bit of everything: races, a pet parade, an Irish Rebel Door Competition, corned beef competition, and, of course, the parade, which typically features about 80 units. Hundreds of people — and some dogs — will be dressed in green for the parade in honor of Thom McNamee, a prominent entrepreneur who helped revitalize the River and Water street areas in East Dundee. The parade kicks off with an Irish song at 11:15 a.m. For more parade information go to: https://dundeestpats.com/.

Then one week later on Saturday, March, 16 return to East Dundee in the evening for what is being billed as “The Best Fireworks Display You Will Ever See!” Spread out your blanket by the Fox River and thrill to the sparkles, twinkles and the reflections on the river of the spectacular free fireworks display. The evening’s fun begins at 7:30 p.m. with music from the Dundee Scottish Bagpipes on both ends of the river footbridge connecting East Dundee and West Dundee.
