Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a Federal program designed to pay monthly benefits to people with limited income and resources who are disabled, blind or over the age of 65. Children with disabilities may also get SSI.
Unlike Social Security Disability benefits, SSI benefits don’t require the necessary “quarters of coverage.”
If you are eligible for SSI, you are most likely eligible for Medicaid and food assistance, as well. Medicaid will help you pay for hospital stays, doctors’ bills, prescriptions and other health costs.
